SUMMARY

Visually inspects aluminum wheels to adherence to quality standards, reworks through buffing operations, insertion of bushings, and packaging/palletizing containers for shipping, bushing, and packout.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Regular attendance and presence at work as scheduled.

Ability to work a 12-hour rotating schedule, including every other weekend

Load and unload wheel on/off various conveyor lines

Visually inspect wheel for surface imperfections (approximately 60 potential defects)

Check face, exterior and interior diameters

Deburr wheel as necessary

Move good parts down production line; non-conforming parts onto fallout line

Document casting information; non-conforming information on all rejects parts

Parts that are non-conforming are placed on a pallet, tagged properly and inputted into computer data base for documentation (cast code, date, mold, and defect code)

Buffing rework can be performed immediately

Final wheels are placed on pallets or container as specified by documented work instructions for transfer to warehouse

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

High school diploma, general education degree (GED), or high school certificate of completion; three to six months related experience and training preferred; familiarity with defects is an important component of this position.  It takes about one month to learn all aspects of the job; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees, including supervision and engineering.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add subtracts, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.  May need to develop percentages, fractions, etc.

REASONING ABILITY

Each operation is standardized through defect charts, standardized instructions, etc.  Because of the volume and speed of production, the inspector must make decisions rapidly and yet slow down if necessary to prevent bad products from going through processes.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to walk; squat or kneel; bend or twist; climb or crawl; and talk or hear.  The employee must lift parts weighing 40 pounds on a high volume basis. Most of the time employee slides parts off of conveyors, but in some routines must occasionally lift or move parts weighing up to 75 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.  The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.  The noise levels in the work environment if usually moderate.  The work environment makes good use of conveyors to minimize strains.  Minor cuts and bruises can occur with handling of parts.
